The possibilities and uses of sectioning

Sectioning benefits in particular vast website, which comprise of many sub pages. Sectioning can come in handy if different departments or country offices want a simple way to single out their own area of expertise or responsibility out of the larger mass of tracking information. Sectioning facilitates comparisons between different entities on the website.

A. Sections by language or country

If the website is divided into different language or country versions, sectioning permits you to separate the visitor information of these different groups. This may help do determine the amount of traffic each language/country receives and whether or not these versions are necessary.

Examples: Finnish, Swedish and English

B. Sections by product groups

In organizations with a wide array of products, it can be useful to know which product groups are the ones which generate most traffic and therefore interest visitors the most. The knowledge attained can be applied to improve the site's search engine optimization or to re-evaluate the product range and its marketing. Sections by product groups can be of significant aid to online stores.

Examples: Printers, monitors and scanners

C. Sections by the order process

When assessing the functionality of an online store, sectioning can be used to track how many visitors reach each stage of the purchase process. This will reveal which steps are problematic and where the hindrances are: at what stage of the process do people abandon their basket and end their visit? Could a clearer overview of the prices of shipping and handling reduce the amount of visitors who dare not place the final order?

Examples: Basket, Paying and Order verification

D. Sections by branches or sectors

If a company has several different branches, sectioning will help to keep these branches' website intelligence apart. Each branch only need to overview their own visitor results and different branches also become mutually comparable.

Examples: Car rental, insurance and repair services

E. Sections by field of responsibility

The employees of a company often have narrower fields of responsibilities assigned to them. Sectioning allows an easy look into one's own field without having to browse through all the results. The sectioning can then be made to include only pages that are relevant for the individual or team.

Examples: Terry's responsibilities, Department for sales in Eastern Europe and Marketing team

F. Sections by target groups

Some websites are divided into sectors according to different user groups. If we want to know how the behaviour of these groups differs or how each of them utilizes the website, sectioning provides a means to presents these target groups' patterns separately.

Examples: Private clients, business clients and the media

G. Sectioning by website structure

The above things often make up the website structure. But in addition to these, a company may find it of interest to know who browses, for example, their About Us pages or how many opt to use the Flash version over the HTML version.

Examples: New website, old website and Intranet

The same page can be included into several sectors simultaneously without conflict. It is not necessary to only section language versions or only product groups, all types of sections can co-exist.

In order to function, sectioning must either be defined into Snoobi's settings or straight into the source code where the Snoobi tag is.
