Troubleshooting with the AdWords integration
If your AdWords integration is not working or you're not sure what to do next, please check the following pointers:
1. I sent the request to begin the AdWords integration, what should happen now?
After you've entered an AdWords customer ID into Snoobi, the integration can usually be completed within 1-3 days due to the following steps:
First, Snoobi's helpdesk processes the integration request.
Accepting request: You will receive an e-mail from Snoobi when the AdWords request is awaiting for confirmation from your company. After receiving the e-mail, log into Google's AdWords management and accept Snoobi Oy's request for API access. You'll find this request easily, as it is displayed on Google AdWords' front page. If there is no request, your user privileges may be too low - ask a colleague with administrator rights to log into Google to accept the request.
Campaign selection: We will e-mail you as soon as the request has been accepted. After this, log into Snoobi and oriantate to the AdWords settings (Settings -> Add-ons). There is a red button to attach/detach campaigns - use it to choose which campaigns you wish to integrate into Snoobi. If you do not want to integrate all campaigns at the moment, you'll always have the option to integrate more campaigns later.
(If the attach button isn't visible, wait an hour and try again. The delay is caused by the two systems not updating simultaneously.)
Once you've chosen at least one campaign for integration, a new report type, "AdWords report" will appear in Snoobi's Standarn report menu. Finally, make sure that you give all necessary colleagues editing rights to the campaigns (only viewing rights are the default setting).
2. Why isn't the request appearing in Google's AdWords management?
User level: Only administrator-level AdWords users can accept an integration request. If your user level (normal user rights or only viewing rights) is not enough, ask another user or a colleague to accept the integration request.
- Accepting request: Have you received an e-mail, which asks you to login to Google to accept the integration? If you have not received an e-mail, please wait for its arrival. The e-mail is sent when Snoobi's helpdesk has processed the request and added it to Google for your approval. This usually takes place within 1-3 days.
Starter edition: Is the Google AdWords account using a version called "Starter edition"? In order to make an integration, the AdWords account must be using the Standard edition (the upgrade from starter to standard is free). If your AdWords account was in Started edition when the integration request was made, please contact Snoobi's helpdesk for further guidance.
3. The integration request was accepted via Google, why won't the results show in Snoobi?
Attach campaigns: After accepting Snoobi's API access request from Google, you need to return to Snoobi in order to choose which campaigns you wish to copy to Snoobi. The integration doesn't remove campaigns from Google's own AdWords management, you'll still be able to update the campaigns through Google, as well as through Snoobi. Snoobi can only show the results for the campaigns that you've attached to the integration.
New data updates once per day: Notice that Google reports AdWords data for full days only, this means that the AdWords report in Snoobi will be empty for the first day following the integration.
4. What does tag fixing mean and why does Snoobi prompt me to fix tags?
What are tag fixes? The ad tag or ad identifier is the staple element that allows Snoobi to track AdWords ads (and any other ads, too). When Snoobi displays a message about fixing tags, this means that the ads in question can currently not be tracked. The longer the tags remain without getting fixed, the more AdWords data you'll lose.
When are tags fixed: You'll be urged to fix tags in the event that the ads have been updated via Google's own AdWords interface, which may cause the necessary tags to disappear from the ad's target address (Google overwrites the Snoobi tag). Changing the ad's landing page or creating a new ad are examples of edits that will result in the need to fix tags. Snoobi notices that the ad is no longer tracked and prompts you to fix it within 24 hours of the ad edit.
Automatic tagging: If you want to ensure that your AdWords ads are returned back into the tracking after they have been expelled, enable automatic tagging. Auto-tagging does a tag check-up once every 24 hours and fixes tags if necessary. Even with auto-tagging, if the tag is lost and the check-up is performed hours apart, some data may go unsaved. For this reason, if the AdWords ads are edited through Google's own AdWords interface, it's wise to log into Snoobi immediately after and refresh the Snoobi data (the refresh data button can be found from the AdWords report)
Another option is to carry out all AdWords updates and editing through Snoobi, which completely eliminates the risk of tag-related data loss.
5. Why doesn't the AdWords report update in Snoobi?
New data updates once per day: Google updates its own report every 24 hours. Due to this, Snoobi's update interval for the AdWords report is also 24 hours. Snoobi fetches many of the metrics directly from Google's AdWords account.
Editing via Google: Have you or a colleague made changes to the AdWords ads via Google's own AdWords interface within the past 24 hours? Try synchronizing the accounts by pressing the "refresh data" button in Snoobi's AdWords report. The refresh data function copies all of the newest data over from Google to Snoobi.
Snoobi automatically refreshes all data every 24 hours at minimum.
MiniSnoobi: Has your customership/contract with Snoobi ended? AdWords reports are only available for customers, the condensed MiniSnoobi version does not support AdWords integrations.
6. Why does the tag fixing fail or produce an error?
If there is an error in fixing the tags, please contact Snoobi's helpdesk, who will assist you in determining the cause for it. Some potential reasons for the failure include:
The ad's target address is complex and contains numerous parameters.
The website's CMS system refuses to additional parameters and rejects Snoobi's ad tag.
Snoobi cannot verify that the target address is valid. Validity problems are often caused by temporary shortages in availability, e.g. the website servers are down.
7. Why can't I edit AdWords campaign information (keywords, bids etc.)?
Use the AdWords report: All changes that pertain to the ad's visibility, content and price are made through the AdWords report, not from the settings.
User level: Kampanjan muokkaamiseen tarvitaan erillisen AdWords-muokkausoikeus. Pyydä, että AdWords-käyttöoikeutesi päivitetään korkeammiksi
Snoobi 3 version: Is this the first time that the ads are edited since the Snoobi 3 version upgrade? In this case, all ads must be migrated first from the old version to the new version. View instructions for migrating AdWords ads.
