Goals
You can turn any important pages, where as many visitors as possible are hoped to go, into goals. Goal-going visitors can be considered especially sought-after or first-class due to the importance of the goals. Goals are presented in their own box in the report which makes for easy access and there is no longer any need to browse a long list of pages to find the most interesting ones. For further explanation about the purpose of goals, go here.

Image 1. The goals as viewed from the mail report
Below are the instructions for how goals are configured into Snoobi's settings. The basic principle is identical to that of sectioning. One goal can contain several pages (if needed).
1. Log into your Snoobi account's setting and choose
Goals.
2. From the goal page's URL-address, choose a unique identifier which can only be found in the goal page's URL-address.

Image 2. Adding goals through the settings
Example 1.
If a goal's address is http://www.yritys.fi/yhteystiedot/tilaus/tilaus.html
a good identifier would be %/formsent.html%
Example2.
If a goal's address is http://www.yritys.fi/index.php?lang=1&pageID=15
a good identifier would be %&pageID=15
Please read more about the purpose and usage of percent marks below!
If you want to include several different pages with different URL-addresses into the same goal, you can do so by giving them different identifiers but the same name.
|
Goal identifier |
Goal name |
End result |
| %ordercomplete.htm | Order | they become one |
| %thanks.html | Order | and the same goal |
3. Into Goal's name, choose whatever name that you want the goal to go by in the report. The clearest is to choose a name that reflects the function of the page, such as Thank you for ordering, Contact request sent or Bid sent.
4. Press Add. Before you can view the results of the changes you made, they will first be queued. The countdown in the queue shows how much time remains until the actual update process begins. On large account this might take several hours, in which case you can hurry up the update by pressing the Update Now button. The goal will appear in the report once the update is done.
How to use percentage marks
A percent mark % is almost always added in front of the goal identifier. This is because we want to accept any combination of characters (i.e. any URL-address) to come before the identifier. For example, if you choose %company.com as your identifier, the identifier will work together with any prefix such as https://company.com, www.company.com and store.company.com.
A percent mark is often (, but not always!) added after the identifier. This signifies, that any combination of characters is accepted after the identifier. This is necessary, if the URL-address does not end with the identifier. Such is the case when the identifier has been picked from the middle of the address or a sessionID is inserted at the very end.
Please note! If the identifier ends with a number, it is safer NOT to add a percent at the end. Please review image 2 for explanation.
| Page's URL-address | Identifier | Which pages will be included in the goal? | The suitability of identifier |
| %pageID=45% | All pages beginning with the number 45: pageID=450, pageID=4512 etc. |
Risky. Needed only in cases where the pageID is NOT at the very end of the address |
|
| www.firm.com/index.php? default/english/pageID=45 |
pageID=45 | Not a single page, because no URL address begins with pageID=45 | Poor |
| %pageID=45 | Only the page pageID=45 |
Optimal!

Image 2. Placing the percent after a number is often a misleading solution
A percent mark on both sides of the identifier means that all characters before and after the identifier are accepted.

Utilizing the special character in the URL address
When selecting the Goal identifier, any special characters in close proximity to the identifier can be useful! Leaving out special characters from the address (for example . and / signs) might mean that the Goal will apply to more pages than actually were intended. Please review the chart below for a thorough explanation of the effects of special characters in the Page identifier.
Goal's URL-address Identifier Which pages will become goals? The suitability of identifier plants Nothing Extremely poor %plants% The entire website Poor www.plants.fi/plants/plants.html %/plants/% All pages within the /plants/ folder Good if the purpose is to treat the entire plants-folder as a goal %www.plants.fi
/plants/plants.html%Only the page plants.html, however, all pages without the www will be excluded Poor %plants.html% Only the page plants.html Optimal! %plants.fi Front page only So and so. Is the front page a suitable goal considering that most people enter through it?
